Of course the plot is simple and there isn't much depth to anything, but the job of a comedy is not to make us think, it's to make us laugh. I guess that's what gets lost on Roger Ebert's fat brain and the Academy puppets. This movie is one of a kind (except of course for it's sequel) and has some of the most interesting and unreproducable one-liners in history. Sure Jim Carrey is no Jerry Lewis, because he is not old, unfunny, and now helping retarded kids. So if you go by the opinion of people who get paid to review movies, skip Ace Ventura and see whatever awful Disney movie came out this month about love conquering all. If you want a movie that is original and memorable, albeit silly, go see Ace Ventura and laugh your ass off. |
