This movie is the first movie that destroyed my long-standing reputation for not crying in the movies. The movie captures the striking indifference of contemporary Japanese children to the horrors of the past, i.e., Hiroshima WWII. The beauty of the scene in which the grandmother runs away in the rain, makes me thrilled. The old lady's message is to both Japanese children and to the world: Neither seek revenge nor forget. |
