The Piano is the story of a mute woman, Ada, who goes to an unknown man because of an arranged marriage. She brings along with her her daughter played by Anna PAquin and her beloved piano. As they arrive at the beach(they travel by water), the "people" of her husband start taking her things to put away; all the lighter things. The piano is left behind because it is too heavy and it is a long journey. Ada gets worried that something might happen to her piano but she could not do anything about it. She then asks one of her husband's friends for help to get her piano back. THE SCENE WHERE THEY GO TO THE BEACH AND WHERE SHE PLAYS THE PIANO WHILE HER DAUGHTER IS DANCING IS SO HAUNTING YET BEAUTIFUL. Her husband's friend however makes a deal to her husband that he give him some land for the piano. This is where he takes full advantage of Ada to show her that he is in love with her.
This movie is so sexy yet erotic but yet haunting and wonderful. I think Jane Campion should have won the Oscar for Best Director. She really did a phenomenal job on this movie. Especially the end where Ada questions her life and whether she should take it or not. THAT SCENE WHERE SHE IS UNDERWATER JUST FLOATING THERE IS THE BEST SCENE EVER MADE IN MY OPINION.
Holly Hunter, who spoke nothing in the movie won an Oscar for BEST ACTRESS because of her haunting role. Anna Paquin who plays Ada's daughter also won an Oscar for sUPPORTING ACTRESS and makes her one of the youngest actors to win an Oscar!!
This movie is so amazing and the music is so haunting and beautiful. "The Promise" and "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" are so wonderful that they just bring more life into the movie.
This movie os so unbelievable. I think it is one of the best films of all time. |
