When I was little, I took piano lessons. My mother bought a little plaque that stood on the piano. It said, "Music is love, in search of a word." I think that's the theme behind this movie. When you have no voice, when your only method of communication is music, then you convey all emotions through music. Holly Hunter does a tremendous job of conveying all she is feeling through her face while she plays the piano. Music is a passion for so many people, because it allows the expression of emotions we would keep repressed in our daily lives. This film expresses that love affair with music and its ability to tap our inner passions beautifully. Superbly acted and well photographed. |
