Mask of the Phantasm is a great film. It is great because it satisfys on almost every level possible. This is the Batman that fans have been wating to see captured on film. He is a troubled man still dealing with the death of his parents, and is torn between his loyalty to them, and the possiblity of a normal life. This movie shows more than any other Batman, just how *****ed up Bruce Wayne really is. Kevin Conroy does a great job as Batman/Bruce Wayne. His voice is ver well done. The Joker in this film is also great. Mark Hamill is hands down the best Joker ever. He plays the part flawlessly, and this is some of the best voice acting I have ever heard. Mark Hamill's joker is one of the most enjoyable things to watch in this film. Batman has always been difficult to show on film. I always saw the Batman story as something dark, moody and psychological, but instead Batman has always been portrayed as kind of lame and campy. From the old Adam West Batman, to the Batman films of the 90's Batman has never been portrayed in the correct way: Serious, dark, and menacing. This film does it right. The score is great, much like the original Danny Elfman Batman score but with more of an edge. Gotham City is finally the way it should be, a dark playground for it's strange cast of characters. This is a great Batman film, and I highly recommend it. |
