The only Batman movie worth seeing....

...atleast since Tim Burtons first Batman in '89. In fact, this cartoon may even outdo that one. Even though this is a cartoon, I think it has more of an adult style story to it, and maybe should be deserving of a PG-13 rating. It's really too bad that since it's a cartoon, many who would enjoy a good Batman movie might write it off as "for the kids", and even worse it might live off the reputation of all the poorly written Batman sequals that have come out around the same time as well (Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin).
This Batman, unlike the mentioned sequals, show Batman as more of a detective, not just a costumed gadget equiped guy who beats up the badguy. In addition to the primary story of a mysterious new villian called the Phanstasm, who is killing off former members of a local mob, we're given a look into Bruce Waynes' past as he first becomes the Batman after having perhaps the only women he loved walk out on him after they planned to wed.
All the loose threads are tied up by the end of the movie, with the Joker being thrown into the story for good measure.
Perhaps being darker then the cartoon series it's based on (which too I think it much better then the horrible live action Batman sequals), it still stays within it's defined continuity. In my opinion, the guys who wrote the cartoon and this movie should have been writting the live actions Batman movies.
It's not what new toys Batman has, or how cool his car looks that makes a good Batman, it's the quality of character that he's given. This Batman has that. |
