One of Clint Eastwood's best films

A Perfect World may be one of Clint Eastwood's best films, but he is not very present in the film. Instead of paying more attention to Eastwood, the audience seems more interested in the dazzling performance by Kevin Costner.
A Perfect World follows Eastwood's two best films, Unforgiven and Mystic River. It tells the story of an escaped convict named Butch Haynes, who escapes with another convict as well. But the other convict barges into the peaceful home of a Jehova's Witness, and the caos during the scene leads Butch and the other convict to kiddnap the Jehova's Witness' son. The little boy doesn't know what the men will do to him, but the boy soon developes a friendship with Butch, and becomes facinated with the way Butch lives.
But Red Gartnett(Clint Eastwood) is on the trail of Butch, along with a female criminologist(Laura Dern) and some other detectives. But Red knew Butch when he was a little boy and put him in prison for killing a man, and Red feels sorry for ever doing it. But he's keeping his past a secret from the other people. Meanwhile, the little boy steals a Casper costume that he wears for the remainder of the movie, and Butch tells the little boy that they're headed for Alaska...
The movie has many sad parts, including when a black farmer lets Haynes and the boy spend the night at his home, but Butch hates how the farmer beats his son, which puts Butch into a rage. The movie has a sad ending.
I was disappointed about how Eastwood doesn't appear as much in the film as Costner, although Costner delivers quite a performance with his southern accent. A Perfect World may not be Eastwood's very best film, but it sure is one of his best. I hope many people see it. I'm sure glad I did. |
