A fine third entry in a very good horror trilogy

The army is up to their old tricks again, and apparantly they have not yet learned from the previous two films. Return of the living dead 3 is a bit of a mixed bag, featuring some solid acting bits (as well as some bad ones), very cool prosthectic effects, and a warped sense of humor. J. Trevor Edmond plays Curt, who's father works in a secret military compound doing experiments on reanimated corpses. Curt and his girlfriend Julie, played my Mindy Clarke, sneak into the compound to see what goes on there, and they witness a succesful demonstration of 2-4-5 trioxin on a dead body, what they do not see is the disaster that occurs immediately following the test. The body wakes up after allegedly being nutrilized and attacks the men in the biohazard suits... and we all know where this leads. Later on, Curt and Julie have a motorcycle accident, Julie is killed and Curt (having just seen what he feels is a miracle) uses the chemical on his dead girlfriend bringing her back to life in deadly form. She is able to resist eating him for a while, due to their strong bond, and it is the scenes in the film dealing with this very aspect that actually drives one to feel some genuine sympathy for these characters, their performences in these sad moments of realization are really quite good. Then of course, its back to the horror/ comedy flavor we all know and love. The couple angers a local gang after Julie infects one of their group, and so they spend the rest of the film on the run from this gang and the military. Curt and Julie hide out with a strange hermit who lives in the sewers and a final showdown takes place as both the gang of miscreants and the military catches up with them. The last 25 minutes of the movie are a rush of nonstop goofy gore effects and one incredibly memorable creation in the form of Julie all decked out in spikes, chains and painful looking piercings as she mauls her potential meals. Some of the acting is fairly bad, and the musical score can get a tad annoying, but otherwise this movie is a must see for the die hard fans of the first two.
