I have seen Gettysburg about 20 times. It is a fabulously written, acted, and directed film. The only minor complaint that I have is that the theatrical/DVD release deleted some vital scenes that were in the eventual TNT 3 part mini-series. Scenes explaining things like why the search for shoes was what sent the first Confederates into Gettysburg, and the loss of Longstreet's children to the "fever" the Spring before the battle leads to his sullenness.
But overall, a fabulous film. I have been to Gettysburg several times and it is amazing to see battle locations and landmarks appearing as they truly were during the period.
The battle sequences are outstanding and very realistic! |
