"The Thing Called Love" is a nineties version of "Nashville" about a group of would be singers and songwriters trying to make it in the show business world of country music. The movie does goes down the familiar path of roadblocks and success of stardom, and the realtionship between River Phoenix and Samantha Mathis is cliched as well, but the young stars are always interesting to watch and the direction of Peter Bogdonovich is well worth it. Sadly, this was River Phoenix's final film before his death, and you see a star in the making in the performance od Sandra Bullock. The soundtrack is terrifc. |
