How many love stories can you think of, where the lovers never kiss, only hold hands and speak to each other in the last 30 seconds of the movie, yet still captures your heart and emotions so totally?
Listen, I have heard this movie called a "chick flick" countless times. It is not a "chick flick". "Terms of Endearment", "Steel Magnolias", "About a House", "Driving Miss Daisy", etc. etc., now those are chick flicks. They make you cry, nobody gets shot, and there are no serious laughs.
Take it from a guy whose favorite movies are "Die Hard", "Armageddon", and the "Fugitive". This is a GREAT movie, full of warmth and laughter and love, the PERFECT movie to watch with your significant other.
How can this be a chick flick, when chicks won't even get the reference to "The Dirty Dozen", which was hysterical. Writer Nora Ephron captures the essence of the lonely, widowed father, the motherless kid, and the lovestruck, somewhat loonie young career girl ready to take the plunge to a guy she thought was Mr. Right.
Take my word for it. This is an awesome movie, a fun ride [even though no one gets shot]. Two hours well spent. |
