Typical example of the bleak future sci-fi genre.

Despite what seems like a lower than needed budget and a drab story line, this movie just manages to work. Jack Palance is humorous as the lips that appear on everything from TV screens to automobile windows. A young Angelina Jolie sans lips is one irrestible cyborg. We even see her in actions scenes that look forward toward her Tomb Raider movies. The other actors turn in performances that are good enough to keep the movie watchable. Another bleak future film in the tradition of Blade Runner and Escape from New York, the story has just enough to keep the viewer interested, but no more. I liked the scene where Jolie's character is captured and a new chip is placed within her. Her lines are silly, but work for the situation. With a higher budget, some scenes could have been shot better, but the darkness of the film is one of the things that works for the movie. The DVD or is worth the price, but don't expect too much value for your money. |
