This gives you an idea about my sense of humor. This has been called "the goriest fright film of all time", and that may in deed be true.
I read that this began as a stage play in director Peter Jackson's native New Zealand and that the first few rows of the live audience were issued sheets of plastic to cover themselves from the "blood" splattering into the crowd. I don't know if this is true, but it evokes imagery of a macabre Gallagher show.
Check out the scene with the Ninja priest. It is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Also not to be missed is the outstanding performance by the Sumatran Rat Monkey. From my money, it is the finest performance ever turned in by a rat monkey, Sumatran or otherwise.
Bloody, obscene, subversive, and funny as hell, this is the movie that served notice to anyone paying attention that Peter Jackson was a Sam Raimi-like talent - destined for bigger things, but making very interesting films on a low budget until he got noticed. |
