I'm not much of a mushy gushy love-comedy sort of movie person myself. However, I'm a total Johnny Depp fan and when I was flipping through the channels,completely bored one Sunday afternoon I heard "Benny and Joon starring Johnny Depp coming up next" and it went on from there...
Benny and Joon is not your average and predictable romantic-comedy of sorts. It's different and odd and completely perfect.Everything about this movie fits together. The actors chosen, the songs that played during the movie, and the scenery makes it seem like a fairy tale that can really happen.
Johnny Depp plays the unusual and free-spirited Sam, a 26 year old who can't read but has a talent for magic tricks. He meets Joon, a mentally ill but completely-capable-of-taking care-of-herself-girl, and Benny, her over protective brother. Things were a little chaotic before Sam stepped into the picture, and for a while everything was finally getting together. Benny had a date and was forming a relationship, Joon wasn't having a mental breakdown, and Sam was keeping the house clean and adding some excitement and laughs. Sam and Joon fall in love and slowly everything starts breaking down and it leaves the audience to question is their love strong enough to outlast everything bad that is going on around them?
Johnny Depp and the rest of the actors were astonishing in this movie. I thought they all gave Oscar-worthy performances, but apparently the Academy didn't think so (They suck lol).
Benny and Joon isn't very well known and I think that more people should see it and realize movies that didn't bring in 100 million bucks in the box office can still be fantastic. Get up and rent it..even better, go buy it! If not for the movie, go see it because Johnny Depp is in it! God he's hot.. |
