Wow! After seeing Pirates of the Carribean I took my friend's advice and rented Benny and Joon. I thought that after his outstanding performance in Pirates nothing could have ever come close... I WAS WRONG!!!! This is a beautiful movie and one that in my opinion has a real moral behind it. Many romance films or even just films that have couples in them seem to say that as long as you have love you have it all. Not so with this wonderful film, it shows the audience that no matter what, a person is a still a person. Despite the fact that Joon has depression Sam still loves her and refuses to give up on her. I find this truly inspiring because many times people look at the faults in a person or what makes them differant or new to them and get scared or would want to seperate themselves from the person. But the character of Sam magically played by Johnny Depp looked past that and stayed with her. And I honestly think the two of them have alot in common.... think about it... Sam has his own little quirks about him, can't read, has interesting traditions to what he calls 'normal' and is often looked at as a strange person. But his abnormality seems to stabalize the normality in Joon and together they can work to live happy lives. I really loved this movie... Johnny Depp was absolutely wonderful making his character seem almost magical yet human. He's a man with a talent and all the films that I've seen show it!!!! |
