Best Western I've Ever Seen, and I hate westerns

Usually I'd drop dead before sitting through a 2 hour western starring dirty harry, but this is a rare exception. What a friggin awesome movie, on every level I rate them. The two sub plots form one big mess, and it's done without being cliched. No tricks, they set this one up the entire time and you just don't see the end coming (at least i didn't). Truly genius execution of what later becomes a staple in movie making -- 'the twist' [type of surprise ending]. Acting -- I feel for each and every character, even the children. Some of the scenes are so close to reality I can't help but react emotionally. Direction -- leads us lazily along while the story looms darker and meaner and ... right attitude. Visually this film takes us from the barren plains to the coldest mountain plateau, and frames it all very gracefully. |
