If you rent "A Few Good Men," fast forward until you get to the scenes involving Jack Nicholson. When Nicholson sin't on screen, the film is flat, the performances are superficial and there really isn't a reason for watching.

The story is about a shallow navy lawyer (Tom Cruise) who is assigned a politically sensitive case. His comic releif, not nearly as attractive sidekick (Kevin Pollack) is his assistant on the case. Demi Moore is the uptight co-counsel who plays the role of Cruise's conscience.

Nicholson is great as Colonel Jessup. He is tough, mean and confident. He is military arrogance personified. His performance and that of Kiefer Sutherland, who plays an angry southern lieutenant, are the only ones worth noting.

There are some truly horrible exchanges in this film and some awful scenes. Too many scenes are superficial and the film has a high gloss feel to it. Cruise is mailing his performance in and Demi Moore is simply not a good actress.

The story could have been interesting if it were not for those performing it. There are classic lines from Nicholson in the film, but little else to offer.
