This is a movie that reminds me so much of my own life. I related to this movie me and my younger brother are also preacher's kids. I am the oldest and this movie reminded myself of the older brother in this movie and my brother is like Brad Pitt, only not a degenerative gambler. The father in this movie reminds me so much of my own Dad, a very loving man who loves his boys very much. This is a wonderfully done film, great acting, especially from Brad Pitt, his character is the most memorable in the movie, and that is because of Redford's superb job directing this movie and Redford has a knack for creating a supberb and memorable supporting character (Timothy Hutton in Ordinary People, or Will Smith in The Legend of Baggar Vance) The cinematography is also amazing. Montana is a very beautiful place.
The only part where the movie fails is that it never elaborates on Brad Pitt's self destructive behavior that in the end leads to his demise. The drama and emotion of Pitt's problems is never captured and it makes the second half of the movie kinda dry because that's mainly what the second half of the film is about, Brad Pitt's road to self destruction and everyone trying to help him but he won't accept their help. The father wraps it up masterfully well when near the end of the film he does a sermon on how people who need help the most will not accept that help.
Nonetheless, a very good movie, check it out sometime. |
