About halfway through the movie you know how it's going to end but that doesn't stop you from wanting to see how it gets there.

Woody Allen presents the movie in a documentary format. The camera work is hand held and sometimes deliberately (I hope) shoddy looking. Scenes are intercut with "interviews" of the characters as they offer their reflections at points along the story's way.

None of it would work unless the actors could make you buy into the illusion of reality. Under Allen's direction they do and with the film's style you are willing to believe that you are peering into the real lives of some really disfunctional marriages.

There aren't any gag lines, pratfalls or some of the awkward comedic situations typical of Allen movies. But the dialogue is crisply written and expertly delivered.

If you enjoy some movies merely to admire the craftsmanship that went into making them, this one will greatly satisfy you.
