great psychological horror film.

the story is based on the urban legend of a killer who uses a hook.
Following 2 students, Helen Lyle in paticular, who are writting a thesis on the legend of the candyman, thought to be no more than urban legend, she finds her self getting more and more wrapped up in the stories she hears, of course, she herself doesn;t believe in the myth and is there fore in for a visit from the Candyman himself, who warns her how her disbelief is killing him, and she soon finds it is all to real as he kills of everyone she knows one by one, in gruesome ways.
of course, everyone else thinks she is crazy and she herself is the killer, and she gets blamed for all of it.
the acting is great, especially by Tony Todd in the title role, he has alot of presense and is very convincing, with his monotone voice and over all acting, as is Viginia Madsen as Helen Lyle.
but the best part comes from the score by the remarkable Philip Glass, the music really helps build suspense and tension, and carries the film alot when it tends to get slow at points.
This is one of the greatest adaptations of a Clive Barker book (being from a short storie from The Book Of Blood books, called "The Forbidden").
rent it today, and check it out for yourself, if you are like me, you will not be dissapointed. |
