This movie is one of the most amazing movies ever. I was one of those people who couldn't watch an older day movie but that was one movie that I couldn't stop watching. A league of their own is a movie taking place during the second world war. Now that that the men are gone, the women must entertain and what better way then the first women's baseball league. Dottie(Geena Davis) is an amazing ball player in her town with her little sister Kit(Lori Petty) who couldn't hit to save her life. Baseball scout(Jon Lovitz) comes to one of the local games and asks Dottie to come and tryout for the league but Dottie declines saying that shes a married women and must stay home running the business. Kit wants to play but the scout doesn't want her. Dottie makes a deal, she goes to the tryout but so does Dottie. The girls tryout and both makes a team, the Peaches. All the teams are shocked when they have to play in skirts. The Peaches coach is old legacy, Jimmy Dugan(Tom Hanks), who was an amazing player but is now a drunk and depressed. He doesn't care about the team, Mae(Madonna), Doris(Rosie O'Donnell), Megan Cavanagh(Marla), Betty(Tracy Reiner),Evelyn(Bitty Schram), Shirley(Ann Cusack) and Alice(Renee Coleman). The team begins to come close and have a lot of fun doing what they do best, playing baseball.The girls then get the news that the league will have to end of they don't get more support. That game Dottie steps it up a notch doing little tricks with ease like catching a pop fly while doing the splits and catching the attention of LIFE magazine.Dottie begins to take control. Later on when the league is doing well Dottie and Kit get into a fight and Kit is forced to transfer to the team.Before the final game Dottie's husband comes back and she decides to quit the league to stay with her husband. Both Dottie and Kit's team makes it to the finals.At the beginning of the game Dottie comes in uniform and is ready to play. Kit goes up to bat with two outs and in the last inning, the winning team of the league is all up to Kit and Dottie is catcher. Kit hits the ball on the third pitch and starts running. Kit's coming home just as the ball is. Dottie catches the ball as Kit hits the base and the two sisters collide. Dottie drops the ball and Kit's team wins the playoffs! It then goes to the present where you see all the players grownup. It goes to the event where the Women's first league is put into the baseball hall of fame. Most of the players are there except for the few who unfortunately passed away. As Dottie looks at all the pictures in the hall of fame she realizes how much she missed because she didn't go back for a second season. This is a true story. |
