Batman Returns was, in my opinion, the best superhero movie of it's time before Spider Man 2 came out. This movie had it all, from beginning to end, whereas the first movie did drag you go into this movie and you get a lot more.
First and foremost, Mike Keaton makes a great Batman/Bruce, i can really hope that Christian Bale has the same allure as Keaton did. Bruce is set into conflict when his life as Batman comes into conflict with his love affair with Selina Kyle. At the same time, his life as Batman is about to get a lot more complicated at the hands of the two villians he faces.
The movies dark atmosphere is absolutely beautiful, Gotham actually looks like garbage with snow and everytime the Penguin shows up you can't help but cringe. Everytime you see Catwoman, well Michelle Phiffer is the female equivalent to Jack Nicholson's Joker, she really is that good.
It overcomes the original in terms of action, suspense, romance, anything you can think of, "Returns" was the pinnacle of the Batman series before the questionable "Batman Forever" and the horrific "Batman and Robin." |
