Probably the best of the ROAD flix

Most reviews summarize the story.... there is no need to do that for a ROAD picture. The story is just something to wrap around Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. From the opening song, Bob and Bing bring their brand of mock ad-lib humor, to a fever pitch.
Although both performers had their personal writers spice up their dialog, they deliver each quip with such ease that you could easily be convinced that they are making it up on the spot.
What I like most about the ROAD pictures is that they never took themselves seriously. The invisible wall between the performers on the screen, and the viewers in their seats is constantly torn down. It starts in the opening number, with the line, "I'll lay you 8 to 5 that we'll meet Dorothy Lamour." The characters know they're in a movie and they don't mind if we're in on the joke. That's what makes these movies shine.
If you have not seen this film, make a point to rent it. Any of the other ROAD pictures will do but Zanzibar and Morocco are my suggestions. |
