This is perhaps the best ghost story ever filmed. It uses subtlety and nuance to build suspense and interest. No gruesome special effects here, just expertly blended mystery, suspense and romance. Gail Russell, in her first film, plays the disturbed Stella disarmingly well and Ray Milland can not help falling for her.
This is a ghost story and the ghost scenes are strikingly well done. During a recent late night viewing, even though I'd seen it many times, the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up and I had goose bumps. |
