Will appeal to: a De Niro fan, a thriller fan, anyone who likes a psychological thriller
Cast:
Robert De Niro,
Nick Nolte,
Jessica Lange,
Julliette Lewis (sorry if I spelled it wrong),
Robert Mitchum,
Gregory Peck
Titles: Elaine and Saul Bass
Score: Bernard Herrmann
Edited: Thelma Schoonmaker
Written By: Wesley Strick
Director: Martin Scorsese
Pros: great De Niro movie, thriller without it being a horror movie, dark humor, unlike old film, good guys are not really good and bad guys aren't that bad, cute cameos by actors from original movie, Martin Scorsese: what could go wrong?, biggest box office for Scorsese at the time it came out, great miniature work, one of my favorite De Niro roles
Cons: not too faithful to old film or book (by the way the book's titled, THE EXECUTIONERS), pretty bad Southern accent delivered by De Niro but that reduces the intense scenes, all the awards went to THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (or SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, whatever! still, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS is better)
Plot: An ex-convict is exacts revenge on his attorney for purposely putting him in jail.
I enjoyed this film, however the first movie wasn't good enough for this to be a sufficent movie. Robert Mithcum was really good as Max Cady, the ex-convict, but Robert De Niro is more of a charismatic psycho. This situation is much like the remake of KING KONG (2005) compared to the old KING KONG (1933), in the old KING KONG, the big monkey's (actually "ape's") obsession is terrified of Kong but in the new version, the ape's love understands him. In CAPE FEAR, the old one just has these terrified women just running around and screaming. In the remake, Max Cady seduces these women and attempt to batter and rape them. If he succeeds in this, I will not tell you, you have to see it for yourself. |
