City Slickers does a commendable job of making you laugh out loud one minute, only to lead you to heartfelt compassion and sympathy for the characters the next. City Slickers tells the tale of 3 men trapped in their daily routines of married life and boring day jobs in the city. They spend a week on a caddle drive tour across the midwest to try to sort out ehir issues. The three men are trying to understand what they have spent the first half of their life on and this constitutes most of the seriousness of the film.
Don't get me wrong, the film is certainly a comedy. Crystal is at his finest with wise cracks, Stern is his usual goofy self, and the character Curly (can't remember the actor's name) throws a good dose of fun in the mix as well.
But what makes City Slickers such a memorable film in the end is the significance and depth each character has where they would only serve as excuses for jokes in other lesser movies. Rent it, buy it, just see it, you'll be glad you did, even if you're one of the many that find Crystal to be very very irritating at times. |
