"A Place in the Sun" is a tragedy that makes the audience feel so bad for Montgomery Clift it's sickening. He falls in love with Elizabeth Taylor, who looks so beautiful that it's no wonder she was known to be the most gorgeous woman in the world. But unfourtunatley he falls in love with the rich girl AFTER he's met the poor girl, played to brilliance by Shelley Winters. Since this was the 50s, inpregnating a woman you're not married to today would be like impregnating a minor- get my drift? To conceal his affair with Winters- and keep Taylor- he contemplates murdering Winters. But complications arise further when he decides he can't go through with drowning her, but then she falls in and drowns anways, and he's tried for a murder he wanted to commit but didn't.

The ghastly tragic aspect in this isn't the fact George is executed, but the fact that he lost Elizabeth Taylor, presented on the screen as an eerie goddess, and made up to such pitch-perfection any man would cringe in guilt at messing up by kicking it with Winters earlier, since he would have been able to keep Taylor had he been able to keep his penis in his pants another week.

BEST PERFORMANCE: Taylor, who to me outshines Clift and Winters combined because her sexiness and sultry innocence hypnotize the screen much more captivatingly than the dramatic louses. Winner of 6 Academy Awards including Best Director, Screenplay and Cinematography. Clift and Winters nodded for lead Oscars- Taylor left out :(
