Nearly Perfect

McMurtry's book is wonderful and the movie a faithful adaptation with inspired casting, included Duvall and Jones perfectly assuming the two leads. Diane Lane couldn't have been improved on either. Forrest and Huston, especially Forrest are hugely aggravating if you loved the book, since the movie is so nearly perfection that Forrest's abominable pretense to being a huge Indian becomes a cartoon.
That said, Lonesome Dove at it's peak is as good as a movie gets IMO. |
