I have several reasons to hate this film, and I am going to talk about them in the flow of this report. This film had serious faults, and I MUST COMPLAIN about it IMMEDIATELY.
I saw this film a very long time ago, when I was a young child. I was only 5 years old when my parents took me to see it, and I could not make any sense of it at all, because I was so young and easily frightened of going to the cinema AT THE TIME. Obviously, things have changed a lot since then.
The beginning was very exciting, with the view of the countryside and the camcorder was RACING THROUGH THE GRASS. I was quite enthusiastic about this but after a few minutes this film started to deteriorate. To start with, when Cody was kidnapped by Percival McLeach, he was locked in a cage in a room with lots of other animals that had been caught. There was a lizard (or was it another animal because I could be mistaken) who was locked in the SAME CAGE as Cody. After a few minutes he used his tail to unlock the cage. It seemed so RIDICULOUS because he then closed the door without giving Cody a chance to get out. As soon as the lizard was free, he did not realize what his actions were doing!
Percival McLeach had a fierce animal called Joanna who was like his assistant. Right at the ending, Joanna left Percival McLeach to his fate.
This is what has happened in other films and stories, eg. "Anastasia" and "Chicken Run". It often happens when the chief villain has an assistant who is RELUCTANT about working for them. This assistant soon becomes suspicious and runs away because they think that the villain is going to harm them. So, by doing this, they are giving a message of 'Serves you right!'
At the end of "The Rescuers", Joanna realized what a nasty person Percival was. That`s why she LEFT HIM TO HIS FATE.
The WORST CHARACTER in the film was Wilbur, because he was so SILLY BEHAVED: I was laughing the whole time and did not take the rescue mission seriously. He was also talking about being cured by nurses, when he was responsible for his own actions. Wilbur SHOULD have been more CAREFUL. I could NOT stand his behaviour.
Another big problem with this film was that Bernard was taking such a long time to propose to Miss Bianca. This was so silly because he KNEW that she loved him. If Bernard had always got on well with Miss Bianca, what could keep him from getting married to her?
The ending was also very badly done because it ONLY presented Cody running into his house, and it does NOT show him reuniting with parents. I think it`s so strange because MOST films present families & friends embracing each other at the end. This scene was MISSING an important moment.
I think this film is SIMILAR to "The Fox & The Hound" because it is all about animals trying to escape from poachers. "The Rescuers Down Under" was SO PROBLEMATIC because of the jokes and silly behaviour, but "The Fox & The Hound" was 100% based on SERIOUS MATTERS: so if YOU want to watch a SERIOUS FILM which is AGAINST poaching (hunting) I would ADVISE you to watch "The Fox & The Hound" and you will get my point.
Even though I enjoy films with lots of action (or suspension), I know that I won`t like all of them, as some of them will have problems. How can "The Rescuers Down Under" be excellent with all its content? It CAN`T! I`ve seen much better films than this one! |
