Kevin Costner became the first actor to direct himself in a movie that went on to win the Best Picture & Best Director Academy Awards. Five years later that accolade will be achieved by Mel Gibson for Braveheart. In 1948 Sir Laurence Olivier directed Hamlet, which won the Best Picture, but not the Best Director award, he although went on to win the Best Actor Academy Award. The west had never been so beautifully filmed as in Dances With Wolves. One of the greatest pieces of cinematography, the running of the buffalos, meticulously orchestratded to be one of the greatest scene in Motion Picture history. |
