One of the most picturesque films around. (fitting as director Derek Jarman would later be losing his sight to complications from HIV/AIDS) Each scene is a homage from one artist struggling with self definition to another. Director Derek Jarman contrasts the homoerotic and sumptuousness of Caravaggios work with its religious patrons and intentions. Cast members Tilda Swinton, Sean Bean and Nigel Terry shine in one of Jarman's best films. |
