When I first watched this back in 86 I was blown away,when i watched this yesterday April 2004,I was blown away. This was Jackies first directorial effort into the modern era(having directed traditonal kung fu excelllence in Young Master and Drragon Lord and turn of the century brilliance in Project A)and is one of the best films he has ever starred in. The script and plot are tight and keeps things going at a pace. The characters are interesting and even all the minor characters are significant. Saying that because this is an action film,the plot and story are just a bonus. The action is superb,amazing set pieces which were fresh and innovative for its time. From the heart stopping shanty town destruction and bus chase to the final fight at the mall,the action is flawless and exciting.It makes me wonder why doesn't Jackie direct his own films anymore. In terms of action this is one of the best ever made and won't be touched for years. |
