A Better Tomorrow is nothing new but fun
by Greg Linsun (movies profile)
May 1, 2008
John Woo is an incredibly talented action director but keeps on throwing the exact same action your way over and over and over again. That isn't to say it isn't fun, and many of his stories though some directors may never admit it have influenced American cinema. A Better Tomorrow is one of those stories. Die hard Woo fans may be slightly disappointed by this one for the reason that it contains a bit more story than his others do. However, when the bullets start to fly you'll be right home with Woo's infamous action movie mayhem. The story is about an ex-gangster trying to start a new life and trying to straighten some loose ties with his brother who's trying hard to become a top-notch cop. Neither one is getting what they are truly wanting and soon it turns violent. Chow Yun Fat is wonderful in this movie and the brotherhood is portrayed very well. Not as much action as The Killer or Hard Boiled but still worth it for any John Woo fan. |
