Perhaps The Most Beautiful Movie I Have Ever Seen

With this film, Tim Burton established himself as one of my all-time favorite film directors. It is true that I grew up on this movie, but even as a little kid, the story always tugged at my heartstrings and I've always told everyone that it is the saddest movie I have ever seen.
The Grand Finale is the most spectacular scene I have witnessed in film history. I cannot tell you how much that scene makes me cry. "Edward Scissorhands" has the most beautiful story with the most amazing film score. Danny Elfman is as much a musical genius as Tim Burton is a film genius. They say that the best movies must have the best music. I agree completely.
Another scene that is really close to my heart is the cookie-making scene. This is a flashback that shows Vincent Price as The Inventor, when he first gets the idea to build Edward. He picks up one of his heart-shaped cookies from the conveyor belt and holds it in his hand. He sees one of his machines that is shaped like a human. With a look of realization in his eyes, he slowly brings the cookie forward and holds it in front of the machine's chest while the theme plays softly in the background.
I love this scene because it really reveals Edward's character. The first idea of Edward that The Inventor had was not of his brain or his muscles or his hands, but of his heart. This is what truly defines Edward. Edward: an innocent, kind man who loves unconditionally, but who is cast out of the town because he is different. An age-old flaw of human nature is touched upon in this personable tale of belonging, love, and loss. |
