A true classic

Well, it's 2006 and I just watched "The Last Picture Show" for the first time in my life.
I have to admit, I never got bored, although it was a movie about a Texas town with not much to do in it.
Two high school seniors (Timothy Bottoms and Jeff Bridges), and best friends, experience the awkwardness of sexual experiences with their high school girlfriends and with an older married woman. The turmoil of relationships with women, the sadness everyone in town feels, the fatherly wisdom passed down by the local ex-cowboy and owner of most of the town.
In the end, everything changes and life is full of awkwardness and sadness. No one really seems happy. Everyone is trying to find happiness, but in all the wrong places. As usual, sex messes everything up.
Interesting movie. The last shot of the movie showing the Movie Theatre with no movie on the marquee captures the essence of the movie........everything changes. Time moves on. People die. People get killed. You marry. You divorce. Your most happy relationships are the ones that cannot be. Often we realize later in life that the one true happy relationship we had, we let pass by.
Very true to life. |
