The story is obviously slanted from Nin's perspective, as is her autobiographical novel of the same name. However, this is what lends it its poetry and lusty beauty. A decadent movie about decadent lives! In some ways, the film feels much like a time capsule. A must see for fans of Nin, Henry Miller, 30's Paris, or decadence minus mind-numbing drugs. Much better job here than the adaptation of Miller's Tropic of Cancer in the 70's. |
