Akira Kurosawa like you've never seen him before
by Greg Linsun (movies profile)
Jun 28, 2009
Many have heard the name Akira Kurosawa but none of his films truly bring you into his head much further than Akira Kurosawa's Dreams. I (guess who he symbolizes) is the main character of the majority 8 segments of the 'dreams' which range from fairy tales with environmental subtexts or apocalyptic with horrors of the wars in Japan through symbolism of a volcanic eruption. If you can't guess already this is not your usual Kurosawa film. However, it truly takes some of the elements that would make up one (wide-shot cinematography, environmental subtext, and of course truly unique artwork). The film never fails to be visually stunning and despite some stories being rather sluggish the film is very intriguing to watch especially for Kurosawa fans. |
