For those of us who love listening to classical music, here is a classic weeper starring John Garfield as a middle-class guy who becomes a virtuoso violinist. He longs for fame and fortune, and finds it when he meets a bored and beautiful upper class socialite looking to brag about the next great thing. Meaning...him. She touts his accoplishments, provides him with a high profile debut, and viola! he becomes an acclaimed violinist! But at what price? They fall in love, fight, and eventually, since this is quite a soap opera, there is tragedy. All of this is done with excellent direction, sets, costumes, cinematography, and good acting. For an extra added bonus, you also get to hear many classical pieces of music performed in their entirety. A music lover's movie! |
