An underappreciated work of genius

Rarely do you find movies with such narrative daring. I first saw this movie when it was released in 1974 and it has become a personal favorite. I have seen it many times since and it still has the power for me that it had the first time I saw it.
Some story telling features like flash-forwards, are rarely used but are done very effectively here. The acting is first rate and I particular enjoy the characters of Friend and Arthur Fane.
Perhaps it is a reflection of my own eccentricity that I enjoy this movie so much yet others do not. Well, all I can do is thank John Boorman for giving me a pleasure that has lasted almost a lifetime. |
