OK. You don't go see this movie for the spectacular visuals, thought-provoking story, or poignant acting. The visuals are cheesy, the storyline is inane, shallow and predictable, and the acting is .... well OK, completely lacking. What it does have going for it is Gene Kelly, whose greatness shines through even with the limited he is given, Olivia-Newton John with her creamy-smooth voice and -next-door persona, and simply wonderful music by ELO. This movie is a voyage back in time reflecting everything that the disco era gave us (remember leg warmers, roller skates, and self-indulgence?). Don't think too hard about it, it won't hold up to the scrutiny. Just sit back, enjoy the music and what crosses the screen for what it is - pure enjoyable fluff. |
