A British comedy masterpiece!

This is the all time greatest comedy Britain has ever made! I'd agree if someone was saying that monty python, Kind Hearts and Corenets or Shaun of the Dead was one of the greatest british comedies ever made, but Withnail & I is the all time masterpiece in British comedy.
It's cracking dialogue ("We want the finest wines known to humanity. We want them here and we want them now!"), hilarious situations (the crasy hunter threatening Withnail and "I" with a dead eel) and even the odd visual gag (Withnail and "I" shooting fish in a stream) is done to perfection, and is topped up with some top notch acting.
The film even had Uncle Monty being one of the funniest homosexuals on film without ever relying on stereotyping. And another thing which makes Withnail & I special is that it is not in the least bit over-the-top, but is still funny as hell! It is indeed one of the most intellegent and sophisticated comedies I have ever watched and will someday, if I get the chance to, eventually purchase the DVD of the film. |
