The Original Is Still The Best....

As much as I admire Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg...some classics should not be remade. I know the combination of technical/special effects, Tom's acting and Spielberg's direction, will make this movie remake phenomenal.
Having watched the original, 1953 version, at least 10 times over the years...it still holds up very well even with the limited technology for the time. They did not have computer generated anything back then, yet, the movie still has the power to evoke fear, disbelief but its most valuable asset was/is realism.
I do not feel that the movie is "dated". Even though the 50's era is depicted in the film, it is no less spectacular because of it.
In its own suspenseful way, you are drawn into
the story, and believe that it is "no big deal"
to put down the "aliens". In an Alfred Hitchcock
type of drama...it becomes more and more apparent
that "they" are more than we bargained for.
I think that the original movie captures all the fears we have about aliens, their existance and how they would affect us if they ever came to our world.
The original stands the test of time and, in my opinion, the visual effects are spectacular and believable, even today.
Somethings are better left alone....I don't think we will ever see a remake of "Gone With The Wind" or "Casablanca". To me, this is the best science fiction movie ever made. Don't mess with the best! |
