Oliver Stone (Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, Natural Born Killers, The Doors, JFK, Talk Radio), fresh off the success of Platoon, dove right into this movie which captured the excesses and greed of the 1980's. From the opening scene till the final scene I was on the edge of my seat as the naive and inexperienced Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) tries to climb up the corporate ladder of riches. Sheen is perfectly cast, and his awkwardness only adds power to the electrifying and charismatic performance of Michael Douglas. Douglas took home the Oscar for Best Actor and I believe it's one of the best acting performances ever. I am fond of the "mentor" theme that runs throughout the movie between Bud and his father (Martin Sheen), and Bud and Ghekko. There is also a moral tug-of-war that Sheen must deal with which I found captivating. |
