Modern war Story
by James G (movies profile)
Jun 29, 2008
Walk in the Sun was one of the first war films made post WW2, and it offered a different perspective. The film is up close and personal, telling the stories of the individual men, mostly in duets as the men walk from the beach to a farm house 5 miles away. It features some of the best talent of the 1950s, with exceptional performances from Dana Andrews (who would appear in the acclaimed "Best Years of Our Lives" - another post war story - in 1946), Richard Conte (only his second film), John Ireland (his first featurted role), and Lloyd Bridges. This was clearly a new direction for war films, and many themes and conventions in later films can be traced to this one. |
