Worst Bond Movie Ever. Period

Roger Moore was born three years before Sean Connery. Complaints about Connery's age in Never Say Never Again (in which the script admitted he was old) and even Diamonds are Forever seem ridiculous when viewing a nearly 60-year-old Moore in A View to a Kill. It's a hard movie to watch. Through out the movie it seems like Moore's stunt double get more screen time than he does. He looks so old seducing those young women that every time he kisses one you wonder if he's not sucking the life out of her. In fact the entire cast is a bit geriatric. This was the film that reminded audiences what decade and context James Bond was from. For decades M was the lone senior citizen among a Secret Service full of young adults. In A View to a Kill M is barely older than Moneypenny, Bond and even Patric MacNee. This is like Cocoon with spies! However, the age factor isn't what really sinks this movie: it's boring and simply rehash. Christopher Walken has moments of greatness in the movie only to be defeated by the scriptwriters. Enough has been said about the underwhelming talents of Tanya Roberts, but Grace Jones, while not classic Bond Girl material, was an inspired choice. The movie is still utterly awful and it was obvious to anyone, even those who don't appreciate what Dalton did for the series, that the series needed a transfusion. Had it gone on like this, the series surely would have gone on dialysis. |
