This movie felt real to me.

The main character's pain was so raw it was palpable. Although I have never been through what she experienced, it made me see things I had never thought of before. I could easily see the stages of her anger, loss, grief, and betrayal, and I realized how close it is to losing a loved one through death. Her fears for her daughter were logical extensions of this. The lines rang so true that it made me wonder if some of it was improvised by actors who had been there.

I love a movie that makes me feel and think, and this one did. The fact that the main character evolved to a realistic happy ending was icing on the cake.

The only negative I can think of is that it feels a bit dated, very 70s, especially the musical score. I first saw it when it came out, so it wasn't a distraction at that time. It also doesn't make the reality any less; in a way it only proves how timeless those feelings can be.
