A great FILM about existential angst

Truth be told, I hated this movie, if anyone cares, the first time I watched it: too slow, too dark, too dull...but I watched it again recently (after a fifteen year hiatus) and loved it!

What struck me the second time round was the calm and understated pacing, the acting, the nuanced interpersonal relationships set against the Czech Revolution in the summer of 1968. This is a story that, as one other reviewer wrote, should be taken in on a sunday afternoon over cheese and wine, as it has all the trappings of a great film: history, love, and, especially, modern existential angst.

Sure, the book is much, much better, and isn't that usually the case?

Sartre would hate it, but Camus would love it, if that makes any sense...

Rent it.
