Arguably his best

Hitchcock brought everything together in The Trouble with Harry, the funniest, and I think, best of all of his movies. Set in Vermont in the fall, the colors help give a light air to could have been a rather dark comedy. And it's that lightness that allows Hitch to get away with making a feel good story where a dead body gets dragged around, buried, unburied, reburied, re-unburied and washed in a bathtub. A series of misunderstandings lead several people to believe they are responsible for Harry's death.
But it's not merely a comedy. It has the tension of a whodunit, and the tension of will this bumbling band get caught? It has a love story aspect. And it's a wonderfully woven character driven story. Other Hitchcock movies may be more famous, and many are more scary. But this is a gem no Hitchcock lover should be without. |
