This film is wonderfully and superbly realized by an Oscar winning performance by the late, great, one-and-only Geraldine Page. She is a lonely old woman whose only wish is to return to her hometown--or what is left of it--before she dies. Trapped in the city with her timid son and his domineering wife, Carrie Watts is constantly plotting and attempting to escape from this trap and return to the serenity of Bountiful. And splendid performances do abound in this thoughtful, stirring and emotional tour-de-force of a film. Delightful in every aspect, this film is a must see for anyone who has longed to get away from it all. |
