This movie is a fantastic semi-horror movie. The movie starts outside of a little town called Perfection Valley, Nevada. The movie starts with two buddies, Valentine McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Basset. (Fred Ward)The two of them are hired hands/handymen, and on the way back into the 14-person town, they meet Rhonda LeBeck (Finn Carter), a college student out in the desert studying seismology (earthquakes). Valentine and Earl are heading out of town to Bixby permanently, but encounter an old drunk up on top of a large power structure, dead. They take him back into town to have him checked by a doctor heading through town (Conrad Bachmann), but when he tells them that the drunk died of dehydration, things get a little mysterious. About the same time, an old farmer who lives several miles outside of town gets sucked into the ground and his entire flock of sheep gets eaten. That night, the doctor and his wife (Bibi Besch) get sucked into the ground, along with the station wagon. The next morning, Earl and Valentine are out, and find the farmer's head lying in the dirt, and they panic and head back into town, stopping only to warn two workmen (John Goodwin and John Pappas) that there is a serial killer on the loose. The workmen disappear, and that's when things turn ugly... I loved this movie, and I think it is well worth buying or renting. The producers made three sequels of this, so look into those too. |
